In this one it was just them dying because their decoys. In the episode where rick and morty leave c-137 to another where they died seconds before was impactful to morty he never had seen something like that and you can tell it affected him. But wheres the real family? It's another one of those episodes where they know fans love these characters but give a F-U by boasting about them and it's not even the same characters we know and love especially in this episode where we see them die over and over. They just keep dying by the end I'm just like ok. I think that was the point but still I'm sitting there wondering what is going on.

Season 5 kicked off great I loved the first episode of season 5 alot it was funny, and it felt kind of like a classic episode that it will be considered a classic I hope. If you like this episode I can understand, but I have my personal issues with it and I'll explain in a sec. It's still a really good episode though, and season five is off to a strong start. Perhaps it was over reliant on the idea that killing them again and again was funny enough on it's own, which I didn't think was the case. Though the show had some good moments, I liked the reference to Andross from Starfox, for example, I do think it's a touch below par, when it comes to the humour. There's something reminiscent about the excellent season two episode "A Rickle In Time" seeing two versions of Rick trying to out second guess each other in a fight to the death. It's very cleverly done, as we the audience never get to settle in with a "real" family, before they are killed off in spectacular fashion and we move onto another set. "Westworld" obviously provides the template for robots that aren't aware that they're not real and "Highlander" for the, there can be only one aspect of the Battle Royale. The episode explicitly references it's two biggest inspirations this time.

But as the copies make copies and the degradation starts to settle in there are soon some very strange versions of the Smith's, all involved in a fight to the death. as soon its established that the decoy families are both unaware that they are robots and that the Rick-bot is as smart as the original and has been creating decoys themselves. The Smiths are killed ! But fortunately, it's decoy family that the original Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland) established as cover for the real clan. Another good episode, but for me it's a little to clever for its own good, as the killer premise doesn't allow for that much humour.
